Hey, remember a couple of weeks ago, we read about when Jesus healed two blind men, He told them not to tell anyone about it? We were puzzled by this and could only to speculate on the reasons why Jesus would do this. Again, we read about how Jesus healed the sick then warned them not to tell who He was but today's passage also includes 17: "This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:"
The verse that stands out for me the most is:
" He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear His voice in the streets.
A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out, till He leads justice to victory"
While I don't understand everything about this passage, it gives me the impression that Jesus was a silent and gentle servant of God. Though He had the power to bring justice with thundering glory, God chose to accomplish His will quietly and withdrawn, gently, and slowly at the pace of One human man serving other human beings one at a time. It still puzzles me but not by confusion but by being in awe of Him.

thanks for a moving and insightful reflection, lynn. the passage you call our attention to in isaiah is so moving, because it describes the heart of Jesus toward us.
He is infinitely loving and patient with us, so much so that even if we are like a bruised reed, so fragile as to be almost falling off the stem, "He will not break" us.
and even if we are so weak and faithless as to be like "a smoldering wick", like a flame just about to sputter out and die, "He will not snuff [us] out".
He is forgiving, kind, and infinitely compassionate toward us. He will not try to argue or convince us who are often so willing to forfeit the grace and the peace that come from resting in Him alone.
"He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear His voice in the streets". gently He entreats us to come, for our own sakes and for our eternal good.
It amazes me how awesome God is but we belittle him into nothing on a daily basis. His promises are good and come true but we doubt His love and will for us. We are such fools for taking advantage of such an amazing God. Reading this passage and your reflection made me think this way.
Thanks Lynn!
