You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 4A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Pharisees and Sadducees were always trying to test Jesus, find a way to acuse Him. Their spiritual eyes and ears were closed, "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand". I pray that God will give us understanding about the heavenly things!

thanks fabiana for your post. i think this is such an important passage. it reminds us that we are constantly looking for some "sign" that confirms or verifies what God's Word clearly states, because apparently, the authority of God's Word by itself is insufficient to convince us. Jesus calls this faithless attitude characteristic of a "wicked and adulterous generation".
He also says that we who are so adept at "interpreting the appearance of the sky" "cannot interpret the signs of the times". the "signs" of His presence in our lives and of His future coming are everywhere if we just had the eyes to see them. Jesus said that no sign "will be given except the sign of jonah". what was the sign of jonah? that in the midst of a wicked and adulterous generation, God is so kind and merciful as to send a prophet into their midst to plead with them to repent and to turn from their evil ways. i sometimes wonder if the "flipside" of this same "sign" is that the "wicked and adulterous generation" won't accept God's teaching when they hear it and miss the day of God's coming.
