29The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
There was a slave girl in Filipos, who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned lot of money for her owners by fortune telling. But after Paul commanded the spirit that possesed her, her owners got angry because they could not get any money.
They accused Paul and Silas , beat and threw them into jail. God use that situation to save the jailer, not only him but all his family. How amazing is that?
Sometimes we do not know why things happened in certain ways, but we should believe that He can show his glory trough this!

thanks fabiana for your reflection. this is truly an extraordinary passage of scripture. paul and silas could have looked after themselves and escaped the minute they were miraculously freed; yet their only thought was for the jailer, who would most certainly be killed for allowing the prisoners to escape. they did not think of themselves, but of the possible salvation of the jailer. their extraordinary act of staying put moves the jailer, causing him to fall, "trembling before paul and silas", asking "sirs, what must i do to be saved?"
i believe it was the act of not escaping the moment they were able to, even more than the miracle of the earthquake, that caused the jailer to come to a saving faith in Jesus. it's not the miracle but the loving choice that paul and silas made that made all the difference.
Fabiana, thanks for sharing your reflection and for reminding us that God's light shines despite the darkness in this world. No matter how bad the circumstance, God can still use it for His glory.

Hallelujuh! Aloha sisters. Thanks Fabiana for your reflection - God is amazing. I love this passage of scripture, especially the passage where they are praying and singing hymns to God in prison! It makes my heart leap that midst all the chaos and torture they were still able to give praise... and God HEARD! He makes His presence known! In fact it makes me laugh out loud thinking about all the other participants in the passage. How astounded they must have been! How some must have dropped to their knees! I think God does this often in our lives to show or remind us of His presence, not so much as miracles of this magnitude, but perhaps as 'notices' that makes us stop to examine ourselves and come back down to our knees. I think that joining this blog is a reminder to me to give HIM praise, honor and glory. Who can resist the power of the Holy Spirit?

Thanks for sharing. As I was reading this passage, I couldn't help but feel anger on behalf of Paul and Silas. They had been accused, arrested, beaten, humiliated, and thrown in jail, and all because of evil people and selfish, greedy nature. I'm sorry for venting, but I'm witnessing something very similar to Paul's situation in my father's life, and I can't help but to feel the injustice of the situation. It's disturbing actually. Well, at least in the end of Paul's story in this passage, he get some sort of vindication, but I really don't see any justice for my dad though. I just keep chanting that God will give him justice and then I'm reminded of "The Count of Monte Cristo."
Then I think more about Paul's life and he had endure so much hardship in the name of the Lord. I'm floored by this endurance and perseverance.
There must have been a specific reason that God spent Paul to meet the slave girl and drive the spirit out of her and for him to be thrown in jail and remain honest, even though the temptation for freedom was right in front of him. He even shared the gospel with the prison guard. There really is no coincidence in life.
