"Quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger" - this has been a motto of mine for awhile now. The tongue can destroy when we are not watchful of its will to act unwise and uncontrolled. We need to be constantly praying that the Lord sharpen our minds that we do not allow the tongue to be on the loose. It is definitely a battle for me but thank God, I am becoming more of a conqueror than a slave to it!
If we could constantly keep a tight rein on our tongue, and obey the Lord by humbling serving others, especially the orphans and widows - this would be pleasing to God and our "religion" would be priceless to the watchful eye of the world.

Thank you Esther for your reflection. As we learned from today's passage is that God's definition of religion is deeds of love. You can't call yourself as a religious unless you put others above yourself. Is this different from what the world consider a religious person as? Secular world dislikes religious people because mainly it sees them as bunch of hypocrites and self righteous. I don't doubt that they are many religious people who are like that without knowing what God accepts religion; pure and faultless. Concerning and caring for people who are in need, who are overlooked, and who are negelected.
thanks esther for your reflection today. james defines "pure and faultless religion" as "looking after orphans and widows" AND "keeping oneself from being polluted by the world". i'm sure most of us would fail the test if we examined our lives in light of these two criteria. whatever our idea of faith is, it MUST include these realities if it is to be acceptable to God.
