According to the passage, we see clear distinction between earthly wisdom and spiritual wisdom (wisdom comes from heaven). Earthly wisdom has no purpose of producing the good rather it has a selfish and evil ambition producing disorder and evil practice. Notice that this wisdom from above that reflects itself in the conduct of God's children is first pure. It is uncontaminated by any of the myriad aspects of carnal, self-centered human nature.
Since we do not naturally have the wisdom from above—spiritual wisdom—then we must ask God for it in faith. We must be sure that our faith is in accordance with His will, and we must come to Him with the utmost confidence that He will grant it. When we go to God with a request, His answer, whether yes or no, will be for our ultimate good. Our faith is not believing that God will give us what we want regardless of our request, but that His answer will always be the wisest answer for our ultimate good.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!!!!

Thanks for a wonderful reflection, kwijung! It is shocking to hear worldly wisdom being described as carnal, infernal, leading to chaos and every sort of evil practice, especially when we think about how many times we commend and admire it when we see it someone! It just goes to show how profoundly unspiritual and ungodly we are by nature, how we so often do not have the things of God on our minds. Spiritual wisdom is often ridiculed by the world but how often it turns out to be right in the end! And thank you for the reminder that we should ask for godly, spiritual wisdom, having full confidence that God, whether He answers yes or no, does so only for our ultimate good. It is a wonderful reminder of His goodness and unfailing love.
Thank you, Kwi Jung!!!
I never thought of worldly wisdom as a bad thing. I always thought any form wisdom was a good thing because you need it to live well in this life and to make good decision or else you'd be in big trouble. But this passage taught me that not all wisdom is good because it will lead you further away from God. It can blind you and hinder you thus leading you to stray.
