23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"
26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"
I get scared, worry 24/7 and play out different scenarios in my head until I scare myself sick. All the while, Jesus, the God that even all of nature obeys is next to me...waiting for me to just place my faith in Him and ask for help.

what an excellent reflection, christine! i think what you said was exactly right. if we would just remember this one story everyday, we would save ourselves a lot of needless pain and grief.
this story shows us that whatever storm we go through in life, Jesus goes through it too--right beside us.
we pray frantically to Him, but He does not respond. our prayers seem to go unanswered. we get frustrated because He seems to be "sleeping", unaffected by and oblivious to our struggle.
we get bitter, too, at the Lord. inwardly we say, as the disciples did, "Don't you care if we drown?"
just at the right time, He asserts His mighty power to "calm the storm".
we are surprised, too, whenever we witness His sovereign power over the circumstances in our lives, over the "wind and the waves".
we call Him Lord over all but i guess we don't really know it or believe it. our trouble is always that we are a people of such "little faith".
no matter how big or small our storm may be, Jesus is with us every step of the way. it is very reassuring to know that we never go through the storm alone. often times when i start to worry or stress out, reminding myself that Jesus is right next to me instantly puts me at peace. no matter what the outcome may be, knowing that Jesus is by my side is all that matters.
it's so important that we continue to build our trust and faith in the Lord, so that we can withstand these storms without always haveing to freak out.
may we continue to pray for the growth of our trust and faith in the Lord.
p. james sermoned on these verses several years ago and it has been of such comfort! this is the verse i pray whenever i lift my mother to the Lord... i have peace because i know that Jesus is in the boat with her, wherever that may be... thank you Jesus... please increase our faith!
