Loving The God of Truth

Welcome to all those in the ODM who desire to know and to love the God of Truth through the faithful study of His Word. Please feel free to share your comments, insights, questions, concerns, words of encouragement, thanksgiving, praise, and prayer requests with all of us.

May God most richly bless the reading of His precious Word to our hearts this year.

"The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous.
They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;
They are sweeter than honey from the comb.
By them is your servant warned;

In keeping them there is great reward."

(Psalm 19:7-11)

Rank in the kingdom 2

20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
21 What is it you want?" he asked. She said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom."
22 "You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said to them. "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?"
23 Jesus said to them, "You will indeed drink from my cup," but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father."
24 When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
25 Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-
26 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Hello. Korea is now getting so warm even hot!! how's there?

When I read this part, one thing is not clear to me. Why Jesus asked "can you drink the cup I am going to drink?" I thought it's about his cross and sharing his suffer..but I don't think it is...

I see it's talking about to serve. Who doesn't want to stand high upon others? I think it's so hard to serve, I mean, truly. Well, what's the bad thing about being first or great among people? I think that's to have self conceit(I don't know if I'm using right word but..). "I am someone very speicail! I should be treated better than others!" like this. The difficulty of being humble with being first makes serving truely almost impossible. May we keep our mind humble and humble before God whatever place we take.

HI SUNG EUN!!!! How are you? It's really cold and rainy here in Chicago...so you're not missing out on much. But I miss you!

I totally agree with you on this passage. Sometimes I think when you serve, you expect rewards and recognition for your service. But as a christian, when you serve it should be for the glory of God and not yourself. Most times we forget about this and think about ourselves. I wonder if that's why when we serve, we look at it like a chore or just something to do instead of an act of love and worship for God.

hi sungeun, miss you! it's been cold lately, almost like winter.

thanks for your reflection--this passage really made me think. there are many requests we make of Jesus to which would reply, "You don't know what you are asking." the closer we are to our Lord, the more we will share the concerns of His heart--concerns for the poor, the oppressed, the downtrodden, those who are suffering and abused, the sins and hurts of His people etc etc.

in knowing His heart, we will in some way assume these burdens too and be compelled to serve and give our lives, just as He did. when we don't know Him but try to serve, we get easily aggravated and frustrated. we find serving others tedious and a real imposition on our lives.

the places of glory will be reserved for those who in "drinking from the cup that Jesus drank from", really understand the love of Christ and translate this understanding into countless works of service, unnoticed and uncommended, many of which are surely so menial as not to be noticed by anyone except God. surely they will be ones to sit at the right and left hand of Jesus in His glory.
