The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20)
The book of Matthew ends with Jesus asking the disciples to finish what he has started here on earth. This passage also applies to the church today. We have seen and heard and if we believe that Jesus is the risen Lord, we should be finishing what he has started in our every day lives.

thanks christine for your post. the great commission is certainly not for the faint-hearted. those who join in the privilege (not the duty) of fulfilling it need to be absolutely convinced of the two truths Jesus leaves us: 1) that "all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to [Him]" and 2) He will be surely with us to the end of the age. therein lies the power to "make disciples of all nations"--not our knowledge, not our speaking ability, and not our persuasiveness. for those of us not so gifted in these areas, it is very good to know, but then again, we don't have any more excuse either.
This passage reminds me of another from Matt
9: 37Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
The Great Commission sure seems like a mission for the great and mighty but Jesus says to all believers to go. What encourages me is to know that the harvest is all around me. I need not go so far or go seek those far removed by culture, or lifestyles but to go seek the heart of those who I walk by and even hang around on a regular basis. God is the one that brings the challenge to me and I guess the greatest and hardest distance for me to cross is the line over my comfort zone.
