29-31As they were leaving Jericho, a huge crowd followed. Suddenly they came upon two blind men sitting alongside the road. When they heard it was Jesus passing, they cried out, "Master, have mercy on us! Mercy, Son of David!" The crowd tried to hush them up, but they got all the louder, crying, "Master, have mercy on us! Mercy, Son of David!"
32Jesus stopped and called over, "What do you want from me?"
33They said, "Master, we want our eyes opened. We want to see!"
34Deeply moved, Jesus touched their eyes. They had their sight back that very instant, and joined the procession. (The Message).

We can learn many things from this passage, but what caught my attention today was this question " What do you want from me?" If I could ask God for one thing, what would it be??
Honestly ... I am asking the Lord to search my heart, and show what is my real desire. There are so many things I want. But if it was only one thing... just one thing... I want to be in His presence, resting in His arms...
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM GOD??

thanks for your reflection, fabiana. what a wonderful passage this is! so many things we can learn from these two blind beggars. 1) they believed in His power and asked Him to help them. it's amazing how much faith it takes to do so simple a task as simply asking 2) they did not give up calling on Him, even when "the crowd tried to hush them up". we often get discouraged by others or by our own guilt or by what seems to be the lack of response on God's end. we become discouraged and give up asking.
but these plucky men persisted and were able to gain an audience with Jesus. we need to have that same kind of persistance. when He does not answer right away, we need to keep asking: "they cried all the louder, "Son of David, have mercy on us!"
once we have His attention, Jesus then asks one of the most important questions He might ask of any of us: "what do you want Me to do for you?" have we ever really considered how we would answer if Jesus posed that question to us?
well, the beggars knew what they needed. they said, "we want to see". this is such a moving passage. knowing of their own helplessness and blindness, the blind men went to the Only One who could help them.
this is the gospel. realizing our sin and unbelief, we must continue calling on the Lord with persistence for the gift of faith. i thank God for reminding me today of such great mercies as He has shown us through these poor men.
Hey Fabiana,
Thanks for pointing out such a poignant part of this passage. I think it's a question that can really test our hearts and can change our lives.
